St Peter's Choir
‘Singing lies at the heart of worship. Voice for Life has a valuable part to play in giving life and soul to us all as we worship and learn.’ Dr. John Rutter
The Director of Music is Simon Palmer and you can contact him on 07932 791 717 or sfp1549@gmail.com
Unfortunately Maggie Davies and Rosie Stubbs are missing from the photo of the choir.

The Choir is affiliated to the RSCM (Royal School of Church Music) and treble choristers follow the ‘Voice for Life’ choral training scheme to learn vocal technique and music theory.
The mission of the RSCM is to “enable the flourishing of church music, thereby bringing people closer to God in worship and encouraging church communities to grow”. This is achieved through training programmes in choral and church music skills, support for singing in schools, a quarterly guide to choosing music for worship, music publishing, a national youth choir, festivals and summer schools.
Each year, the RSCM make a number of honorary awards for outstanding contributions to church music, one of these being the Nicholson award (after Sir Sydney).
We are delighted to announce that, in acknowledgement of his “significant contribution to church music and/or liturgy at a local RSCM Area level”, our Director of Music, Simon Palmer, has been given a Nicholson award which he will receive at an award ceremony in October 2024 in St. Albans Cathedral. Many congratulations to Simon! The RSCM news records that: “Simon Palmer has given unstinting service to the RSCM over several years as a proficient church musician, Area Chairman, Area Safeguarding Officer and, latterly, as Area Team Secretary. He has organised and directed training events for the RSCM Award Candidates, and has promoted the Voice for Life scheme among young people. He also inaugurated the annual orchestral evensong in Birmingham Cathedral, bringing together young orchestral musicians and singers from across the area”.
The younger choristers are encouraged as they begin to learn a new repertoire in dedicated sessions and by the support of older choristers.
The choir currently consists of 6 Trebles, 3 Sopranos, 3 Altos and 3 tenors / basses. Head Chorister, Rosie Stubbs, has been singing with the choir since she was 8.
The Choir is always on the lookout for new members (previous choral experience is welcome but not essential). Treble Choristers - boys and girls from 8 years+ are welcome. We are always delighted when any new adults join the choir.
